360° timeline in HCM Deck
In HCM deck you set up two dates for the 360° review process:
- Start date:
- Participants can nominate reviewers and complete self-reviews
- Reviewers can write peer reviews
- End date:
- Participants and reviewers can no longer complete review forms.
- Participants and approvers can see answers from reviewers.
- Approvers can set up final skill levels and finalize them after they’ve held the meeting with the participant.
We recommend having a minimum of 3 weeks between the start and the end date, as reviews can no longer be written after the end date. Longer period for nominating and writing reviews means that people who are not available for a week or two while the review process is ongoing will still be able to participate.
360° review stages breakdown and timeline estimate
A common timeline can be found in most 360° reviews. You can use the following process to get an idea of how long each step in a 360° review process might take. But it will greatly depend on the company culture, the purpose of the 360, and who is available to provide feedback.
Communicating the 360° review: 1-2 weeks
You should communicate with all stakeholders about the 360° process, the purpose, and how feedback will be collected and used.
Nominating reviewers: 1-2 weeks
One of the most important steps of the 360° review process is selecting reviewers. In order for the data to be comprehensive and relevant, participants will need to choose enough feedback providers. Based on the employee's job function and working relationships, the number of reviewers will differ.
Writing self and peer reviews: 2-4 weeks
The most time-consuming part of the process is having participants and reviewers fill out and complete the review. There are many variables that determine the length of this step, including the number of reviewers, the employee's role, and the organization. To ensure all reviewers have completed their forms in a timely manner, you should establish deadlines at the beginning of the process. Be aware of any bank holidays and adjust the timeline accordingly.
Viewing and approving results: 1-2 weeks
All participants in a 360° review should have access to confidential feedback meetings with the approver. These meetings provide an opportunity to discuss strengths and areas for improvement, as well as to better understand the answers provided by the reviewers.
