The option to recalculate scores is useful when you want changes made to the test (e.g., adding or removing questions) to affect the scores of users who have already completed it. However, it is important to use this option cautiously because once the scores are recalculated, the original values cannot be restored.
Actions that trigger the recalculation of historical scores
All tests
- Changing the type or scoring method of a test.
- Changing the answer to a question.
- Removing a question or changing its visibility.
- Enabling/disabling the "Keep the best score as the final score" option.
Tests with combined scoring method
- Removing, adding, or editing parts.
- Editing categories added to individual parts.
When to use this option
This option makes sense when, for example:
- A question was incorrect and should not have been included in the test.
- A correct answer is considered incorrect.
- The passing score was set too high.
In such cases, it is worthwhile to enable this option and modify the configuration to ensure fairness in test scores for participants.
When not to use this option
However, we do not recommend using this option when the test is conducted cyclically (e.g., annually) and you want to make changes in the latest cycle, such as adding new questions for participants in the 2024 cycle. Enabling score recalculation may cause participants who passed the test in the 2023 and previous cycles to lose their "Passed" status. This would be unfair because they did not have the opportunity to correctly solve the test.
In such a case, simply change the configuration without enabling the score recalculation option or create a new test.
How to use the score recalculation option
- Remember that to activate the option, you must first enable it and save the changes before making any configuration changes.
- Once the scores are recalculated, we recommend disabling this option. The scores will not revert after disabling it, but it is easy to forget that this option is enabled, which may lead to errors in the future. This option can always be re-enabled in the future.
Where to find this setting
You will find the setting by going to the test configuration, in the "Scoring and appearance" tab, under the "Score recalculation" section.
